Diamonds are not *my* friend

July 22nd, 2006 at 02:00 am

No, I don't have any diamonds, nor am I in a position where someone thinks I should buy one (good luck there). If you read my other posts, you can guess my feelings on the things. For those of you that can't, here's a hint (they're hard rocks, thats *ALL* they are!)

So, if this isn't on my mind, or in my life, why bring it up? There is a fun and informative forum dialog about diamonds, and how stupid or smart it is for a man to buy one for a woman. Its at...

I started reading this as soon as it was started by the original poster. I have loved reading this, and of course been amazed at the lack of spine of some of the guys' responses. And btw, I did respond twice in the dialog. There's a very very frugal award for the first person who figures out who I am there! Smile

Have some fun reading it.

I haven't read the link. I just want to say that, as a guy, I'll never understand diamonds and jewelries for that matter.

Yeah, I've had women explain it to me before, and yet, despite clear and concise articulate... I still don't get it! I hear it... but I don't get it!

Perhaps it's the way women will never understand our fascination with large screen TVs?

    BA,
Sorry, but I guess I am super frugal. I have no interest in large screen TVs, expensive cars, jewelry, or most of the other traditional male "vices". I do like sports, but even there I won't spend much money on it. I guess the most I will do is spend money on building furniture for the house and fixing my home. Some day I may change my tune, but 'til then I gotta be me.

    Actually, I'm the same way.

I do have an affinity for electronics though, but I can never bring myself to spend on anything.

Right now, the only thing in my residence is my computer. No other electronics right now except for the alarm clock.

well aside from bragging rights a diamond is pretty..and no CZ is not as pretty (buried under lots of handcream/soap/babyspitup/lemon/food from kids....it as well be the same!)

So if you don't get what is beautiful about a diamond, you aren't ever going to..it is in the eye of the beholder...

    Well, how about this article:

    De Beers is a cartel---

And the fact that diamonds will soon be produced synthetically--

Nope, I'm not ProBanker. I'll have to look and see what he said though.

Thanks for the link with TheAtlantic. I've read a bit, I'll finish it tonight.

Diamonds are not my favorite rock. They are pretty enough, I guess, but I kind of find them cold. DH proposed with a diamond. Know what's in my wedding ring? 4 garnets. A gorgeous set of garnets set in an X pattern in an antique silver filigree setting. Total cost of wedding ring? $70 at an antique store. Engagement ring cost? $700. I don't wear it. I have it, but I don't wear it. And part of that is I'm allergic to gold, but it doesn't call to me, regardless. To me, there are too many pretty stones out there, sapphire, amethyst, emeralds, rubies...but I don't have those either. Just my garnet ring and a single black pearl on a silver chain that I wear at Christmas. And that's enough for me.

I don't get the diamond thing. And I don't like the way they are mined. The only diamond I want in the future is the one my mother is leaving me when she dies. Her wedding ring and that is for sentimental value, nothing more.
